Compartment
The Compartment collection is an exploration of identity told through the language of material and form.
This work suggests that, like these materials, our identities are layered, complex, and irreducible. It is a testament to the beauty that emerges when our varied stories and influences are not separated, but are allowed to coalesce into a single, graceful form.
AS SEEN IN
Laura Clay Art is a contemporary art studio based in Austin, Texas, creating collectible works that bridge fine art, material heritage, and modern design. Founded by Mexican-American artist Laura Clay, the studio's practice is grounded in craftsmanship and cultural narrative.
Serving private collectors, galleries, and interior designers, Laura Clay Art operates as both a creative studio and collaborative partner, creating pieces that anchor spaces with meaning, depth, and enduring quality.
The Artist’s Way.
Laura Clay’s work explores the intersection of bicultural identity, abstraction, and materiality, blending organic textures with structured forms to reflect the tension between chaos and order. Using handmade pigments, fine-line detailing, and layered compositions, she creates immersive pieces that invite viewers to consider the fluidity and duality of personal and cultural identity.
Her practice is rooted in quality and intentionality. She works with handmade paints crafted from natural pigments, including cochineal—a rich red derived from insects found on Mexican nopal cacti. Used for centuries in Indigenous art and textiles, cochineal connects her work to history, heritage, and the artisans who came before her.
